June 9, 2016 WASHINGTON - Several former Georgetown University men's basketball standouts will be teaming up this summer in The Basketball Tournament.
The Basketball Tournament, or TBT, is an open-application, single-elimination, winner-take-all basketball tournament that runs from July 16 through August 2.
Fan voting was held over the last few weeks and several former Georgetown basketball players appear on the rosters of TBT's 64-team field.
Four former Hoyas are playing on three different teams, with Chris Wright (C'10) and Michael Sweetney (C'03) teaming up for the City of Gods squad. That team, according to The Tournament's website, boasts two former top-10 picks (including Sweetney) and more elite talent than any other. They were the Northeast Regional Champions in 2015.
Team City of Gods will be playing out of the Northeast Bracket, which will be held at Philadelphia University on July 16-17.
Nate Lubick (B'14), now an analyst at Bank of Montreal in New York City, will be playing for 120 Sports. His team, made up primarily of former Northwestern players, will play out of the Midwest Bracket on July 16-17 at St. Xavier University in Chicago.
Brandon Bowman (C'06) will be playing for the West Coast-based LAUNFD, which features mainly players from California and Arizona. Bowman and his team, whose sponsor is nationally-acclaimed actor and director Michael Rappaport, will play out of the West Bracket on July 9-10 at Cal State-Los Angeles.
Several players who wore the Blue & Gray participated in The Tournament last year, with Wright (C'10) teaming up with classmate Austin Freeman (C'10) and Jason Clark (C'12) on a team named DMV's Finest, which advanced all the way to the regional round.
Teams have to make it out of their region to make it to the Super 16 round from July 21-23 and to the Championship round from July 30-Aug. 2. The teams that make it to the Super 16 and Championship rounds will have their games aired on ESPN and will be in the running for the $2 million grand prize.
