Georgetown Announces BIG EAST Conference Schedule

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team will play its BIG EAST Conference home opener on Saturday, Dec. 31, hosting Xavier at Verizon Center as the league announced its full conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The full season schedule for television and tip times were also announced.

The game against the Musketeers tips off at 11 a.m. and will be shown live on FS1.

The Hoyas will play 31 games on national television, with 23 on the FOX Sports Networks (FOX, FS1, FS2 and FSN), five on the ESPN Networks (ESPN, ESPN2) and four on CBS Networks (CBS and CBSsn).

During the course of the 18-game BIG EAST Conference schedule, the Hoyas will host nine games at Verizon Center, including three-straight home dates during January and the regular season finale on Saturday, March 4 against defending national champion Villanova.

The Hoyas will play their first BIG EAST Conference game on the road on Wednesday, Dec. 28, traveling to play at Marquette (8:30 p.m., FS1). After the game against Xavier at home on New Year's Eve, the Hoyas will travel to play at Providence on Wednesday, Jan. 4 (CBSsn, 7 p.m.).

Georgetown is at home for four-straight games, including three against conference foes. On Saturday, Jan. 7 (FOX, noon), the Hoyas play Butler and turn back around two days later, hosting longtime conference rival St. John's on Monday, Jan. 9 (FS1, 6:30 p.m.) The team will step out of conference play for a game, renewing a rivalry with Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 14 (FOX, noon). The Hoyas return to conference play on Monday, Jan. 16, hosting Providence (FS1, 9 p.m.).

The Blue & Gray closes out the month of January with three of four games away from home. The lone home date is on Wednesday, Jan. 25 against Creighton (FSN, 7 p.m.). The road dates include games at Xavier on Sunday, Jan. 22 (CBS, 2 p.m.), at Butler on Saturday, Jan. 28 (CBSsn, 8 p.m.) and at DePaul on Tuesday, Jan. 31 (9 p.m.).

The second month of the year starts with a home game against Seton Hall on Saturday, Feb. 4 (FS1, noon) before traveling to play at Villanova on Tuesday, Feb. 7 (FS1, 7 p.m.). The Hoyas return home on Saturday, Feb. 11, hosting Marquette (FOX, noon).

After an eight-day break in the schedule, the team plays four games in a 10-day span, starting with a matchup at Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 19 (FS1, 3:30 p.m.). After a home game against DePaul on Wednesday, Feb. 22 (CBSsn, 7 p.m.), the team is back on the road, playing first at St. John's on Saturday, Feb. 25 (FSN, noon) and then at Seton Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 28 (FS1, 6:30 p.m.)

The regular season schedule closes with a game against longtime rival Villanova on Saturday, March 4, a game that will air on FOX/FS2 at noon.

The nonconference schedule is highlighted by dates against Maryland, Connecticut and Syracuse as well as a trip to Hawaii to play in the Maui Invitational. The Hoyas will play 12 nonconference games before the start of the BIG EAST Conference schedule in late December, and then have one more game out of conference in January.

The 2016-17 regular season starts with three-straight games at home, starting on Saturday, Nov. 12 against the University of South Carolina-Upstate at Verizon Center (FS2, noon). The Hoyas remain at home on Tuesday, Nov. 15 (FS1, 6:30 p.m.) for a rematch against local rival Maryland as part of the Gavitt Games. Two days later, the Blue & Gray will return to campus, hosting Arkansas State at McDonough Arena on Thursday, Nov. 17 (FS1, 6:30 p.m.).

The team then travels to play in the 33rd edition of Basketball in Paradise at the Maui Invitational. The Hoyas will play Oregon on Monday, Nov. 21 (ESPN2, 4:30 p.m.) in their opening game and then play either Tennessee or Wisconsin. The other half of the bracket includes host Chaminade, Connecticut, North Carolina and Oklahoma State. This will be Georgetown's first appearance in the Maui Invitational since the 2011-12 season.

Six more nonconference games will be played before the start of conference play, including four at home. The Hoyas will host Howard on Sunday, Nov. 27 (FS1, 1:30 p.m.) and then host Coppin State on Wednesday, Nov. 30 (FSN, 6:30 p.m.), both games at Verizon Center. Georgetown will then host Elon University on Sunday, Dec. 4 (FS1, 1:30 p.m.) at Verizon Center as part of the BB&T Classic.

The Blue & Gray will travel to Miami to play LaSalle University on Saturday, Dec. 10 (ESPN2, 2 p.m.) at AmericanAirlines Arena as part of the Second Annual Hoophall Miami Invitational. One of college basketball's great rivalries returns on Saturday, Dec. 17 (ESPN, noon), as Georgetown travels to play longtime rival Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.

Before the start of BIG EAST Conference play, the Hoyas will host UNC Greensboro at Verizon Center on Thursday, Dec. 22 (FS1, 6:30 p.m.).
