Sept. 8, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jack Leavitt has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Highlighting this year's season, Leavitt's first at Georgetown, are five events at GU's Albert G. McCarthy Jr. Pool.

"We are really excited to get things underway," Leavitt said. "We have got some great meets scheduled that should really push us to get up and race throughout the season and get us ready to be at our best for the BIG EAST Championships."

The campaign will begin on Friday, September 23 with the annual Blue & Gray Intrasquad Meet at McCarthy Pool.

One week later, the regular season will get underway with the Potomac Relays on Friday, September 30. The swimming portion of the meet will take place at American University while the diving will be held at McCarthy Pool.

The following day, Saturday, October 1, the Hoyas will compete in their first dual meet of the season, traveling to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens.

GU returns home to host both William & Mary and Johns Hopkins in a meet set to begin at 1 p.m. on October 8. After a road meet at Towson on Saturday, October 15, the Hoyas will take on Davidson at McCarthy Pool on Saturday, October 29 in a 1 p.m. meet.

The Blue & Gray will hit the road for the rest of the fall semester, first traveling to Rutgers on the weekend of November 4-5, taking part in a quad meet against the Scarlet Knights as well as BIG EAST foes Seton Hall and Villanova. On Saturday, November 12, GU will travel to Norfolk, Va., for a dual meet against Old Dominion before closing out the first half of the season at the Bucknell Invitational, December 2-4.

Following the start of the new year, the Hoyas will head to the West Coast for a week of training in Malibu, Calif., on the campus of Pepperdine University. During the trip, the Georgetown women will compete against the Waves while the men's squad will take part in an exhibition.

The second semester gets off to a quick start as the Hoyas will compete three times in four days. On Friday, January 13, they will make the short trip to George Washington for a meet against the Colonials and Bowling Green. The next day, GU will return to McCarthy Pool for a Senior Day meet against American at 1 p.m. On Monday, September 16, GU will host Rider for a matinee dual meet, beginning at 1 p.m.

The regular season will conclude with a pair of road meets as the Hoyas will travel to Drexel on Saturday, January 21 and Providence on Saturday, February 11.

For the second-straight year, the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships will return to the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y., February 22-25. Georgetown has finished second on both the men's and women's sides for each of the past three seasons.
