Jan. 16, 2017 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior men's basketball player L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday.
Peak helped lead the Hoyas to a pair of wins last week, beating St. John's, 83-55, last Monday and following that up with a 72-69 victory over UConn on Saturday.
The junior guard averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor (10-of-22) and hitting all 15 of his free throw attempts. In the win over UConn, he scored 21 points and had seven rebounds. He added 16 points, four rebounds and two assists in the win over St. John's.
Peak is second on the team in scoring (16.2 ppg), fifth in rebounding (4.3 rpg) and leads the team in assists (3.2 apg). Peak ranks among the BIG EAST leaders in scoring (11th, 16.2), assists (11th, 3.2), free throw percentage (9th, 84.3%), assist/turnover ratio (11th, 1.2), and minutes played (5th, 33.4 mpg).
This is the first time Peak has been named Player of the Week and the third time he has been recognized by the league after being selected to the Weekly Honor Roll on Dec.12 and Dec. 19. He is the second Georgetown player to be named Player of the Week this year, joining graduate student guard Rodney Pryor (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame Prep/Robert Morris).
Georgetown closes out a four-game home stand on Monday, Jan. 16, hosting BIG EAST Conference rival Providence at Verizon Center.
