Hoyas Travel to Xavier and Butler This Weekend

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (10-7, 2-5 BIG EAST) play a pair of BIG EAST road contests opponents this weekend. On Friday, Georgetown will face Xavier University (10-8, 2-5 BIG EAST) at 8 p.m. on FS1. On Sunday, the Hoyas will travel to Butler University (5-13, 2-5 BIG EAST) for a 1 p.m. matchup on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

Senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after helping the Hoyas to a 2-1 week in conference play.

Woodard averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and .516 shooting, including a squad-best 22 points in a 71-39 win at Providence and 19 points as well as a team-high eight rebounds in a 77-58 victory over Seton Hall. Woodard also had eight steals and two blocks over the three games.

In GU's win on Sunday, four Hoyas scored in double figures as senior guard Mykia Jones (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook/Wake Forest) led the way with a career-high 20 points, going 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Woodard added 19 points and eight rebounds, sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) had 16 as well as five steals and junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) posted 11 points in the contest.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Pirates, 43-31, including 19 offensive rebounds. GU shot 40.3 percent (29-of-72) from the field, and allowed Seton Hall 41.2 percent (21-of-51) shooting. The defense forced 25 Pirate turnovers on 15 steals, and also had five blocked shots.

White leads the Hoyas with 15.3 ppg, as well as 4.9 rpg, and also has a team-high 56 steals on the year, which ranks first in the conference and 14th in the country. Her 3.5 spg also lead the league and rank ninth in the nation. Adomako is second with 15.0 ppg. She is also pulling in 7.2 rpg to rank second on the squad. Woodard rounds out those in double figures with 14.5 ppg on the year. She is averaging a team-high 8.1 rpg, and she also has a squad-best 24 blocks on the year.

The Hoyas are shooting 39.7 percent on the season, and hold a +3.4 advantage in rebounding margin over opponents. The team is also averaging 9.1 steals per game.

Xavier is coming off an 85-69 road loss at No. 20/21 DePaul on Sunday. The Musketeers outscored the Blue Demons in the second half, but couldn't overcome a second quarter that saw DePaul outscore Xavier, 27-10. Leading scorer Raeshaun Gaffney was named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll on Monday after averaging 17 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week. She was also 7-for-10 from the foul line and added three steals.

Georgetown is 3-6 all-time against the Musketeers, but 0-4 in Cincinnati. Last year, the squads split as Xavier won the matchup at the Cintas Center, 59-54, but the Hoyas came back to take the game on the Hilltop, 63-51. Adomako posted 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win at McDonough Arena.

Butler fell to Marquette, 91-53, on Sunday in Milwaukee. No Bulldog recorded double figures as Sydney Buck led the way with nine points, and Tori Schickel added eight points and eight rebounds. Schickel leads the squad with 13.2 ppg and a squad-high 10.4 rpg.

The Hoyas are 2-4 all-time against the Bulldogs with a record of 0-3 on the road. Last year the squads split as Butler took the contest at Hinkle Fieldhouse, 82-76, but Georgetown won, 49-35, at home. White led the Hoyas in both games a season ago with 17 points in the loss, and 12 points as well as five steals in the win.

Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 8 p.m. Jenn Hildreth and Vera Jones will be calling the action for FS1. The game on Sunday will tip at 1 p.m., and will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
