WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team (1-1) fell to the Penn Quakers (2-1), 6-1, on Saturday morning at the Hecht Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The squad had opened the season on Friday evening with a 5-2 victory at Drexel University.
The lone Georgetown victory came from junior Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) who defeated Nichola Westergaard, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 in a three-set battle at the No. 4 position. Rechan was down five match points and came back to pick up the victory for the Hoyas.
Senior Yannick Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School) also forced three sets at No. 5 singles, but eventually fell to Penn's Gabriel Rapoport by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.
The Hoyas will travel to Boston College next weekend for a match on Saturday, February 4 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
