Jan. 7, 2017 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (8-5, 0-3 BIG EAST) will face the Creighton University Bluejays (9-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at D.J. Sokol Arena on Sunday. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Georgetown fell, 71-50, to the Villanova University Wildcats in a conference game at The Pavilion on Wednesday evening. It was GU's first conference road game of the season and the start of a three-game road trip for the Blue & Gray.
Three Hoyas scored in double figures as sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way with 18 points and pulled down six rebounds as well as tallying five steals. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) scored 14 points with a squad-best nine rebounds, while senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) managed 11 points.
Georgetown outrebounded Villanova, 35-34, and forced 14 Wildcat turnovers on 10 steals while committing just 13 giveaways. GU shot just 32.1 percent from the field (18-of-56), while allowing Villanova 47.4 percent shooting (27-of-57) as well as 12 3-pointers.
White leads the Hoyas with 15.1 ppg and 5.0 rpg in her sophomore season. She has a team-high 47 steals on the year which ranks first in the conference and 16th in the country. Her 3.6 spg also lead the league and rank eighth in the nation. Woodard and Adomako are the other two Hoyas averaging in double figures with 14.8 and 14.6 ppg, respectively. Woodard is averaging a team-high 8.4 rpg, and she also has a squad-best 21 blocks on the year. Adomako is pulling in 7.3 rpg to rank second on the squad.
The Hoyas are shooting 38.9 percent on the season, and hold a +2.5 advantage in rebounding over opponents. The team is also averaging 9.2 steals per game.
In a battle of the final two unbeaten teams, DePaul downed the Bluejays, 79-65, on Wednesday. Jaylyn Agnew finished with a team and career-high 21, while senior Marissa Janning had 15 and Audrey Faber finished with 11. The Bluejays enter Sunday's battle 6-0 at home this season. The last home loss for Creighton came against #21 DePaul on Feb. 21, 2016.
Georgetown is 2-4 all-time against the Bluejays, and 1-2 on the road. Last year, GU won both meetings with a 69-57 victory at McDonough Arena, and a 57-44 win in Omaha. In the victory at home, White led the way with 22 points. In the win on the road, Dominique Vitalis managed 12 points to help GU take the series.
