WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's 15th-ranked women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision on the road at Providence in BIG EAST action on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play.
Providence (9-6-0, 4-2-0) netted an early goal at the 5:25 mark and held off Georgetown's offensive onslaught the rest of the contest. The Hoyas outshot their hosts 18-4 in the game and took eight corner kicks compared to none for the Friars.
"This was a tough game and a frustrating loss for us," Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan said. "We gave up a goal off a long throw in, that we had prepared to face, which is most disappointing. For the rest of the game, we tried everything we could to score, hit the woodwork twice, but unfortunately couldn't get one. Credit to Providence, their kids defended very well and today was their day."
Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) managed six shots on the day while Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) and Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) both added three.
Arielle Schechtman (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day/UCLA) collected one save but only faced two shots on goal the entire day. Following PC's early goal, the Friars did not get a shot on target in more than 80 minutes of play.
Georgetown returns to action on Thursday, October 19, as it returns to the friendly confines of Shaw Field for a BIG EAST showdown against Marquette. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
