Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team fell, 54-41, to the Chattanooga Mocs (4-3) Saturday evening at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in the second game of the Challenge in Music City. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-3 on the season.

"There were some good defensive moments tonight, that we were unable to capitalize on, but we followed the game plan to keep them under 55," said Georgetown Head Coach James Howard. "We're still trying to find our offense right now. If you look at the stat sheet, you would have thought we won, but we needed to finish. We're going to keep working hard defensively, and hopefully get that ball to fall."

Junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was the lone Hoya in double figures. Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola) pulled in 11 rebounds to go with eight points, while senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) had eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Mocs, 34-31, but shot just 29.8 percent (17-for-57) in the game. Chattanooga hit 47.6 percent (20-for-42) with three players in double figures and combining for nine 3-point field goals.

Chattanooga jumped out to a quick lead going up by as much as seven, 12-5. Both teams went cold for the final five minutes of the quarter, before White drained a layup with two seconds left to make it 12-9 at the end of the first.

The Mocs were hitting from long range, but Georgetown answered back coming up with some big defensive stops. Those stops didn't result in points with three scoreless minutes for both teams before the Mocs managed a bucket. In the final seconds of the half, Belk pulled in an offensive rebound and put it right back up for the layup to make it 25-19 at the break.

White hit a layup to begin the third quarter, but Chattanooga's Lakelyn Bouldin scored five quick points to build the lead. The 3-pointers continued for the Mocs as the squad hit four in the third quarter to move ahead by as much as 15 points. The Hoyas would battle back, but a late jumper from the Mocs made it 43-31 at the end of the stanza.

Neither team could hit for the first three minutes of the final period. Eventually, the Mocs made a basket to spark a small run. Georgetown came back with buckets from Petke and Belk down low to cut the deficit to 13, 50-37, with three minutes remaining.

Sophomore Morgan Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) knocked down a free throw, but the run was too little too late as Chattanooga went on to win, 54-41.

The Hoyas will conclude the tournament on Sunday in the final game of the Challenge in Music City facing the Northwestern University Wildcats at 3 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
