Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III

On holding MU to low shooting and scoring...
I thought our guys, and they heard a lot from me behind closed doors, but I thought our defense today was really good. I thought that their attentiveness was really good. We just wanted to stay at home. With penetration, you get so conditioned, so used to your rotations and help and support. Going into this game, we said we're not going to help or support. Just stay at home. That is a very good offensive team. Everyone who's watched them understands they have good offensive players and they do good stuff, so to speak. To only let them attempt 14 3's, I gotta give our guys credit for how hard they worked today.

On Jessie's Govan's game...
When the big fella gets going, it makes life easy on everybody. He was going today. You hit the nail on the head. When all three of those guys play well, I think we're something like 10-1, 11-1, so it was good. They shared the game, they passed the ball. Jessie opens everything up and he was able to get his and spread it around a little bit.

On why Jessie was able to get going today...
Maybe they can answer that. Lord knows, I've been trying to get it to happen every day. I don't know what buttons we pushed today, but we're going to push them again next game.

On importance of rebounding...
Akoy has been outstanding on the boards, outstanding on the boards, and he's just been flying in there. Now if we can reel back some of those crazy passes he throws sometimes ...
but the effort, he plays hard. Both of these guys (Rodney and Jessie), Rodney had 10 rebounds too. It helps. Getting second shots, getting put backs. A key, key play of this game, was either the last play or latter part of the first half was a foul shot. Rodney tipped it to keep it alive and Jagan puts it in. We have to continue to do that.

On using a smaller rotation...
I liked the way the guys we had in there were going. Tre (Campbell) was out, BJ (Bradley Hayes) got hurt and couldn't go back in the game. That limits what you have. The groups that were out there were playing well together and sometimes you can overthink it, but the groups that were out there were playing well together.

Sophomore Center Jessie Govan

On what was working for him today ...
I was just feeling it today. My teammates were getting me the ball early, the ball was going in and I was just feeling good today.

Graduate Student Guard Rodney Prior

On what was working for the offense today ...
Like coach said, when Jessie gets going, teams have to double and he sees the floor really well. He's a great passer so he is able to see out of the double team. We got into the offense quickly and our reads were easy to read.

Marquette Head Coach Steve Wojciechowski

On team's mentality ...
It's not where it needs to be. You know we don't have anyone on our team that has played meaningful minutes this time of year. When you get to February and March, you have the chance to do something special, like the vast majority of the teams in our league do. Like the eight or so teams in our league can, the intensity raises and the stakes raise. So, what you did to get to that point isn't good enough, its not good enough. You've got to be able to raise the intensity, preparation and toughness and I haven't done a good enough job getting us to that place.

On Georgetown's defense ...
What they did with their switching was make us make plays off the dribble. We've talked about what teams are doing. The ball needs to continue to move when a big guy moves on you. This isn't the NBA, we don't have any NBA players. I hope some of our guys make it to that level but they are not there now. You can't just isolate the big man in the college game, you have to continue to move the ball.

On Georgetown Center Jessie Govan ...
When Govan plays well, they are a lot to handle. He played better than well today, he kicked our butts. He was terrific. He has that type of talent and ability. Peak and Pryor are two of the best scorers in our conference and have done that consistently, but when you add Govan, it's a much different team. He's been playing really well of late. He was in foul trouble vs Villanova, but if you look at his last six games, at least the ones I've watched, he's been playing really well.
