Feb. 21, 2017 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team returns to Verizon Center on Wednesday, Feb. 22, hosting DePaul in its penultimate home regular season game of the season. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The game will be shown live on the CBS Sports Network, with Andrew Catalon calling the play-by-play, Steve Lappas serving as the color analyst and Evan Washburn serving as the color analyst. The radio call of Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on 106.7 FM The Fan.
The Hoyas are coming off an 87-70 loss at No. 20 Creighton, falling to 14-13 overall and 5-9 in the BIG EAST Conference.
Junior guard L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney) scored 23 points, had six rebounds and three assists to lead the Hoyas, while graduate student guard Rodney Pryor (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame Prep/Robert Morris) added 16 points and sophomore center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Akoy Agau (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Central/Louisville), playing in front of more than 40 family and friends in his hometown, had eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
The game on Wednesday will be the 37th all-time meeting between Georgetown and DePaul, with the Hoyas leading the head-to-head series, 29-7. The Hoyas have won six-straight games in the series and are 14-2 all-time at home against the Blue Demons. Georgetown won the first meeting of the season between the teams, 76-73, in Chicago.
In the first meeting between the teams, Peak scored Georgetown's last five points in the final 54 seconds en route to the win. Pryor scored a game-high 26 points to lead Georgetown, Govan added 14 points, five rebounds and three assists and Peak finished with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Pryor, who has scored in double figures 25 times this season, including 14 games with at least 20 points, leads Georgetown in scoring, and ranks third in the BIG EAST, with 18.2 points per game. He leads the team with 5.1 rebounds and ranks 18th in the conference in that category. Pryor has hit a team-high 68 3-point field goals, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST. He has scored in double figures in 11-straight games, averaging 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in that span.
Overall this season, Peak is second on the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game, leads the team with 3.6 assists and is fifth with 4.1 rebounds. Peak ranks among the BIG EAST leaders in scoring (8th, 16.8), assists (6th, 3.6), free throw percentage (9th, 79.9%), assist/turnover ratio (10th, 1.4), steals (T11th, 1.1) and minutes played (T2nd, 33.7 mpg). He has scored in double figures in 12-straight games, averaging 18.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists in that span.
Govan, who has scored in double figures 14 times this season, is fourth on the team in scoring with 10.2 points and is second on the team with 5.0 rebounds, which ranks tied for 19th in the league. He has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games, averaging 13.7 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.
Sophomore forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) is fourth on the team in scoring with 8.2 points and fifth with 4.1 rebounds per game. Agau, who has three games with double-figure rebounds this season, is averaging 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Junior guard Jonathan Mulmore (New Orleans, La./Redemption Christian/Allegany CC [Md.]), who has started the last six games, is averaging 3.6 points and 1.8 assists, while freshman guard Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J./St. Anthony), is averaging 4.6 points and 2.5 assists.
DePaul enters Tuesday night's game with an 8-19 overall record, including a 1-13 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Blue Demons have lost their last 10 games and are 0-7 on the road in conference play this season. Sophomore guard Eli Cain leads the team in scoring with 16.1 points per game and has hit a team-high 49 3-point field goals, while senior guard Billy Garrett is second on the team with 14.6 points and leads the team with 3.1 assists. Junior forward Tre'Darius McCallum is third on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game and leads the team with 6.7 rebounds, which ranks second in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons rank 10th in the BIG EAST in scoring offense (69.1 ppg) and ninth in the league in scoring defense (74.6 ppg).
