WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team has earned a berth in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and will host Fordham University at McDonough Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. GU is currently 17-12 on the season and finished with a 9-9 record in the BIG EAST, earning the No. 6 seed at the 2017 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament.

This marks Georgetown's second-consecutive postseason berth after falling in a heartbreaker at Rutgers, 57-55, in the first round of last year's postseason WNIT. Georgetown trailed by six with three minutes to go, but tied it at 55 on a Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) layup with 28 seconds remaining. The Scarlet Knights hit a layup with one tick left of the clock as the Hoyas fell. Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) led the way, while White added 16 points and six rebounds.

It is also the second-consecutive postseason berth for Head Coach Natasha Adair in just her third season on the Hilltop.

Prior to last season, GU advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT in 2009. Overall, this is the seventh appearance in the WNIT for the Blue & Gray, the program is 4-6 all-time in the postseason tournament. Georgetown's last NCAA berth was a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round in 2012

The Hoyas went 17-12 on the season with an impressive mark of 8-3 in nonconference play closing out the portion of the year with a seven-game win streak and a perfect 3-0 record at home. Following the nonconference schedule, the Hoyas sat at No. 3 in the first RPI of the season. In conference play, Georgetown went 9-9 overall with a 5-4 record at home and a pair of overtime victories.

The Blue & Gray faced third-seeded Marquette in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals after earning a first-round bye. The Hoyas fell, 80-66, to the eventual BIG EAST Tournament champions.

Fordham is currently 21-11 on the season finishing fifth in the Atlantic 10 with a record of 11-5 in league play. The Rams finished regular season play winning five of their last six games before defeating Davidson in the first round of the A-10 Tournament. Fordham eventually fell to Saint Louis, 68-58, in the quarterfinals.

The Hoyas are 5-3 all-time against Fordham, and have never met in the postseason. The squad is 3-0 at home against the Rams. GU won the last meeting at McDonough Arena, 58-46, during the 2008-09 campaign.

Georgetown is one of six BIG EAST teams participating in postseason play. Both Villanova and St. John's will join the Hoyas in the WNIT while DePaul, Marquette and Creighton earned spots in the NCAA Tournament.

The winner of Friday's game will play the winner of Penn State and Ohio University. The Hoyas defeated the Lady Lions earlier this season at the San Juan Shootout, 68-54.

Tickets for the game can be purchased through Georgetown's Athletic Ticket Office or at the gate. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
