WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was defeated by Xavier on Friday by a score of 5-2. Georgetown dropped to 3-7 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play while Xavier improved to 4-9 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Hoyas got off to a quick start by winning the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) won by a score of 7-6 (4). Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) and Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) won at No. 3, 7-6 (7).

Rechan picked up the lone win in singles play at No. 5, by a 6-4, 6-3 score.

The Hoyas return to action on March 19 when they host Hofstra at 11 a.m.
