WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was defeated by St. John's and Marist this weekend. The Hoyas lost to St. John's by a score of 4-0 and to Marist also 4-0. Georgetown dropped to 3-9 on the season and 0-2 in BIG EAST play.
The Red Storm got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point and never looked back. In doubles at No. 2 Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School) and Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) won by a score of 7-5.
In singles play, three matches went unfinished. At No. 6 Mahlangu was leading 3-6, 1-2 when the match went final.
In the match against Marist, the Hoyas faced an early setback by losing the doubles point. Marist continued its hot play in singles, where it won all three completed matches. At No. 3 singles, Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) was trailing 6-4, 2-6, 3-1 at the time where the match end.
The Hoyas return to action on Sunday when they host Bates College at 11 a.m.
