WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's track & field program continued its strong opening to the outdoor season as the team competed on the final day of the Raleigh Relays, a two-day meet hosted by NC State University. Running on the Paul Derr Track on NC State's campus, the Hoyas put up a trio of top-10 performances to close out the first weekend of outdoor meets.
Nathaniel Gordon (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) was a force to be reckoned with on Saturday as he ran 1:51.39 in the men's 800-meter run, the fastest time he's put up since the 2015 outdoor season and more than three seconds faster than his best time from last indoor season.
Gordon would then come back to anchor the eventual second-place men's 4x400-meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:14.47. Freshman Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga./Lithonia) managed a 47.8 split over the second leg to put the Hoyas back in the hunt and when Gordon took over the final leg, he ran a matching 47.8 as the Hoyas edged out a second-place finish.
On the women's side, Jody-Ann Knight (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville), coming off a breakout indoor season, split 56.5 to lead off the women's 4x400-meter relay. The quartet was anchored by Jocelyn Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield/Northeastern), who split 56.1, as the Blue & Gray clocked 3:50.74 to win the third heat and finish 10th overall.
The Hoyas will continue the season on Friday and Saturday, March 31 - April 1 with three different meets on the schedule. Georgetown is slated to compete in the Colonial Relays (Williamsburg, Va.), Florida Relays (Gainesville, Fla.) and the Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif.), all currently scheduled as two-day meets.
