WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated George Mason by a score of 6-1 on Monday. With the win, the Hoyas improved to 9-4 on the season while George Mason fell to 9-7.
Georgetown picked up multiple wins by Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School), Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School), Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School), Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) and Madeline Foley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall St. Marks).
GU led from the beginning after sweeping all three doubles matches to pick up the point. Goodson and Risa Nakagawa squeaked by at No. 1 with a tight 7-6 (1) win. The Hoyas also picked up wins at No. 2 by Saperstein and Foley by a score of 6-1, while de Chatellus and Swift won at No. 3, 6-3.
The Blue & Gray continued its dominating play in singles as four Hoyas won in straight sets. Saperstein won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2, while at No. 2 Swift won her second match by a score of 6-1, 6-0 and Goodson won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. GU also picked up a win by de Chatellus at No. 5 by a score of 7-6(0), 6-1. Foley capped off the scoring with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win at No. 6.
Georgetown returns to the court on Thursday, March 30 when heads to Towson for a 6 p.m. match.
