Rodney Pryor Selected to 2017 Slam Dunk Championship

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's basketball player Rodney Pryor (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame Prep/Robert Morris) has been selected for the 29th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday, March 30.

Pryor will be one of eight men's college basketball players selected for the event, which will air live on ESPN at 10 p.m. (ET).

Intersport, producers of the event, invites 24 of the nation's elite men's and women's college basketball players to compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships (eight dunkers, along with eight men's and eight women's shooters). The program showcases the dunking and sharp-shooting talents of the nation's top college basketball players during the Be The Match Team Shootout, the Great Clips Men's 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Marine's Women's 3-Point Shooting Championship, the Shoe Carnival Battle of the Champions, and the Denny's Slam Dunk Championship.

A complete list of participants will be released at a later date.

Pryor, a graduate student who earned honorable mention All-BIG EAST honors, led Georgetown in scoring, and ranked third in the BIG EAST, with 18.0 points per game. He tied for the team lead in rebounds, with 5.0 per game. Pryor has hit a team-best 84 3-point field goals and ranked third in the BIG EAST in that category. His 577 points this season rank No. 15 all-time for a single season at Georgetown, while his 84 3-pointers are the second-most in a single season and he is tied for third all-time with 204 attempts from long distance.

Pryor transferred to Georgetown from Robert Morris, where he was a two-time All-Northeast Conference selection.

Over the last 28 years, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships including: Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Denzel Valentine, Damon Stoudamire, Allan Houston, Wes Matthews, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, and Kristi Toliver.
