WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated No.13 UC San Diego by a score of 5-2 on Friday. The Hoyas were led by Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) who won her matches at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 and No. 1 doubles, 6-1.
The Blue & Gray led from the beginning after taking the advantage in the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 2 the duo of Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School) and Anna Short (Birmingham, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) picked up the first win, 6-2. The point was clinched when Saperstein and Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) won at No. 1, 6-1.
The Hoyas won four matches in singles play, three of which were in straight steps. Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School) at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2 and Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4. GU also picked up a win at No. 2 by Sarah Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School) by a score of 6-0, 7-6.
Georgetown returns to the court on Tuesday, March 7 when it travels to Long Beach State for a 5 p.m. ET match.
