Game Notes vs. Mt. St. Mary's

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's lacrosse hits the road for the final time in 2017 as it closes out the nonconference portion of its schedule against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 17, at 7 p.m. The midweek showdown with the Mountaineers will be the lone night game for the Hoyas this season.

The Hoyas (2-10) are coming off a 17-12 loss to then-No. 20 Villanova in BIG EAST action last Saturday. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) both notched hat tricks for the Hoyas in the setback while Devon Lewis (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) and Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) both added two. Peter Conley (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) both had a goal and two assists while Lewis and Bucaro each chipped in lone assists.

Earning his first career start between the pipes, freshman goalie Jack Stephenson (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) hauled in 16 saves on the day, including seven in the opening quarter.

Bucaro, who was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll, continues to pace the Georgetown offense with 46 points (33G, 13A) while Conley is right on his trail with 38 points (23G, 15A). Carraway adds 25 points (18G, 7A), Berge chips in 20 points (12G, 8A), Lewis has 14 points (10G, 4A) and McDonald is good for 13 points (11G, 2A).

Defensively, long stick midfielder Michael Mayer (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) leads Georgetown in both ground balls with 44 and caused turnovers with 16, while Charlie Ford (San Carlos, Calif./St. Ignatius) adds nine caused turnovers and 22 ground balls and Conor Barr (Wilton, Conn./Fairfield Prep/Fairfield) has eight caused turnovers. Jarrett Jones (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) and Conley are both among the ground ball and caused turnover leaders as well.

Mount St. Mary's (4-7) is coming off a 9-6 loss to Wagner after winning two of its previous three games. Five different Mountaineers have tallied double figure points on the year, led by Chris DiPretoro with 27 (22G, 5A). Bubba Johnson adds 26 points (17G, 9A) while Jack Mangan chips in 21 (13G, 8A).

In goal, Matt Vierheller has started all 11 games for The Mount, collecting 112 saves for a 50.9 save percentage and a 10.79 goals against average.

Georgetown and Mount St. Mary's have faced each other 33 times in program history, the second most for any foe of the Blue & Gray. The Mountaineers hold a narrow 17-16 advantage in the series, having won the first 15 games of the rivalry, followed by 14-straight wins by Georgetown. Mount St. Mary's snapped the streak with a win in 2013, GU then won back-to-back games in 2014 and 2015, before MSM claimed the most recent victory last season.

Following Tuesday's game, the Hoyas have the weekend off before returning to the friendly confines of Cooper Field for the season finale against BIG EAST foe St. John's on Saturday, April 29, at noon.
