Recap
All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day) led off the 1,200-meter leg in the Championship of America DMR for the Hoyas. Bartelsmeyer stayed consistent with the pack through his stanza, splitting 2:57.72. In a tightly-packed field, Bartelsmeyer handed off to Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga./Lithonia), competing in his first Penn Relays as a Hoya, who exploded out of the collection of athletes in a comfortable third place. Wilson, returning to the track from the 4x400-meter heats just one hour prior, split 47.20 over his leg before handing off to White.
White looked comfortable in his stride and pulled into second place after his first 400 meters. Coming off the first turn of the second lap, White took over the lead and split 1:46.24 over the two-lap frame before handing off to All-American Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) for the final 1,600 meters of the race. Leading from the start, Fahy was tasked with setting the pace for a field of seasoned milers. The steeple specialist held the lead for much of his stanza but over the final 400 meters, the pack pushed forward with strong kicks. Fahy would take the Hoyas through the line at 9:35.84.
White's 800-meter split was the fastest from the field by more than one second as no other competitor managed a carry that eclipsed 1:47. It ranks as the fifth-fastest all-time outdoor 800-meter split in Georgetown history. During the indoor season, White set a new indoor 800-meter relay carry record, splitting 1:45.8 at the Alex Wilson Invitational on February 19.
The first race of the day saw the foursome of Wilson, Nick Sullivan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), Daniel Anderson (Ozark, Mo./Ozark) and Nathaniel Gordon (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) compete in the men's 4x400-meter heats, vying for a spot in Saturday's finals. In the third heat, one littered with talent including Houston, Stanford and Virginia Tech, the foursome clocked 3:14.95 as Gordon was able to pick off the anchor from Fairleigh Dickinson over his final 150 meters. The time was enough for the Hoyas to qualify for Saturday's IC4A 4x400-meter final.

Hoya History
The 2017 Penn Relays marks the 30th anniversary of the 1987 Georgetown Championship Men's DMR squad. The 1987 foursome of John Trautmann, Darron Outler, Miles Irish and Mike Stahr ran 9:20.96 in a photo finish for the ages as the Hoya foursome broke the world record. For his efforts, Stahr was named the 1987 Outstanding Men's Relay Athlete. The DMR squad was inducted to the Penn Relays Wall of Fame in 2007, joining the 1925 4x800-meter relay squad as the only two Hoya relays to earn the honor. Of the four, both Stahr and Trautmann have been inducted to the Wall of Fame with Stahr more recently in 2014 and Trautmann in 2002.
The Georgetown women have previously won the Penn Relays COA DMR three times, most recently in 2016. GU totals six women's COA wheels with the other four coming from the women's 4x800-meter run, an event the Blue & Gray garnered again in 2016.
The Georgetown men total 24 COA wins in its illustrious history, ranging from the sprint relays through the distance relays. The Hoyas have totaled an impressive six DMR wheels in addition to 10 4x800-meter relay wins. A consistent threat at Penn Relays, the Hoyas most recently brought a wheel back to the Hilltop in 2004, a win in the men's 4x800-meter relay.
