WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team will celebrate its Alumni Weekend as it continues its homestand with a three-game series against NYIT this weekend at Shirley Povich Field. The Hoyas are coming off of a 3-1 victory over Cornell on Tuesday afternoon behind a strong start from Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret). Leonard set career highs with 7.0 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts, while scattering five hits and allowing just one unearned run. Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge) led the GU offense with a home run, his third in the past five games, and two doubles. With his solo home run, Kuzbel became just the 19th member of the 100-RBI club in Georgetown's history.
Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), who had three hits on Tuesday, leads the Hoyas with a .398 batting average and nine stole bases. His 25 runs scored are tied for the team lead with Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS). Kuzbel is right behind DeRenzi with a .374 batting average while leading the squad with four home runs and 30 RBI. He is also second on the team with seven doubles, behind only Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) who has nine. Bernstein and Zach Racusin (Morristown, N.J./Salisbury School/Marist) are batting .350 and .345, respectively.
NYIT enters the weekend with a 3-19-1 overall record and is coming off of a 6-4 win over Lehigh on Wednesday. The Bears are batting just .193 as a team, and are averaging just 5.8 hits and 2.5 runs per game. The pitching staff owns a 6.99 ERA and a 132-118 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Following this weekend's series, the Hoyas will close out their seven-game homestand as they open BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game set against Creighton University at Shirley Povich Field, April 13-15.
