WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Athletics Department held a private commencement ceremony on Monday for six graduating seniors from the baseball team. While the Georgetown community celebrated its graduation exercises last Saturday, the Hoyas were away from campus, closing out their regular season with a three-game series at Xavier.
Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn Va./Stone Bridge) and Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School/Temple) both earned their degrees from the College, while Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton), Jordan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./New Trier/Lawrenceville [N.J.]), Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) and Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret) all graduated from the McDonough School of Business.
The ceremony began at 11 a.m. on Monday morning when six members of the Class of 2017 paraded into Riggs Library in front of a small, intimate gathering of friends, family, coaches and teammates. The six student-athletes were presented by Dr. Shelly Habel, Associate Director of the Academic Resource Center for Student-Athlete Services, to Georgetown President John J. DeGioia, who then accredited their degrees and presented them with their diplomas. The event concluded when DeGioia addressed the graduates, reminding them that the Hilltop would always be their home.
The Blue & Gray finished the 2017 season with a 27-28 overall record, tying for the third most wins in program history. The 27 wins are also the most by a Georgetown team since 1985.
