July 31, 2017 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program picked up 11 academic honors as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual list of all-academic teams and individual student-athletes on Thursday and Friday. Following another successful season on the track, 11 student-athletes picked up all-academic honors while both the men's and women's squads were named all-academic.
To be named an individual all-academic standout by the USTFCCCA, a student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher and have met either of the following athletic standards: 1) for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event or 2) for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including preliminary rounds.
The women's team tallied six named all-academic in Audrey Belf, All-American Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore./Grant), Autumn Eastman (Hinesburg, Vt./Champlain Valley Union), Madeline Perez (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), Haley Pierce (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall) and All-American Kennedy Weisner (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic).
For the men, a quintet of Hoyas were named all-academic in All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day), Michael Clevenger, Charles Cooper (Montreal, Canada/Lower Canada College), Kenny Rowe (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) and Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga./Arabia Mountain).
Georgetown's 11 nods leads the BIG EAST Conference as Villanova tallied 10 honors, Butler and Providence each nabbed five and Marquette garnered a trio. GU was one of just three BE institutions to earn individual honors on both the men's and women's squads with Butler and Providence joining the Blue & Gray.
In order to be named an all-academic team, a program must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. Georgetown was one of six BE institutions on the men's side and seven league schools on the women's side to be named all-academic.
