WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team swept the University of the District of Columbia, 9-0, in a fall match on Wednesday afternoon at the UDC Tennis Courts. It was GU's lone dual match of the fall season.
In doubles play, the pair of senior Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and freshman Sophie Henderson (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) quickly defeated their opponents, 8-2. This was followed by a win for the No. 1 duo of junior Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) and classmate Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) by a score of 8-0. Senior Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School/Wake Forest University) and Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont/University of San Diego) closed out doubles play with an 8-3 victory.
Spinosa carried that momentum into singles play winning at No. 3 to start things off. Sophomore Anna Short (Birmingham, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) managed the 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5, before Nakagawa took the point at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dominika Hadnadova.
The Blue & Gray completed the sweep picking up the final three matches as de Chatellus won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Swift had the 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Marx rounded out the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Florence Clercx at No. 6.
The Hoyas will continue fall tournament play this weekend as the squad travels to the Harvard Fall Classic.
