Sept. 30, 2017 WASHINGTON - The No. 17 Georgetown University women's soccer team will host the Seton Hall University Pirates in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Sunday at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
The game will be shown live on HoyasLive on FOX Sports Go, with Monika Moore calling all of the action.
The Hoyas, ranked No. 17 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches, enter Sunday's game with an 8-2-1 overall record following a 4-0 win at DePaul on Thursday. Georgetown has a 8-1-1 record in its last 10 games, with nine shutouts, including the last six games.
In the win over DePaul, forward Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) scored two goals while seniors Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) and Taylor Pak (Wellington, Fla./American Heritage) each scored goals en route to the victory.
Sophomore Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after her role in the win over St. John's. Playing outside back, Nally helped limit the Red Storm to only three shots, none of them on goal. She helped guide the Hoyas to their fifth-straight shutout and the eighth in 10 games this season.
Georgetown ranks 11th in the country in goals-against average and fourth in shutout percentage. A total of 10 different players have scored goals and 12 different players have scored at least one point for Georgetown. The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST Conference in points (72), goals (25) and are second in the league in assists (22). The team's 72 points rank 22nd in the country, while 25 goals scored make them 20th and the team ranks 28th in assists.
Corboz leads the Hoyas in scoring with 15 points, coming off of five goals and five assists. Corboz leads the conference in points and assists and is second in the league in goals scored. Junior forward Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) is second on the team in scoring with 13 points and leads the team in goals scored with six. She is second in the BIG EAST in points scored and leads the league in goals.
Seton Hall enters the match with a 0-6-4 overall record and a mark of 0-0-2 in league play. On Thursday, the team played to a scoreless tie at home against Butler. Cassy Harrigan leads the Pirates offensively with two goals, while four other players have one goal each. Junior Julia Stirpe is second on the team with three points on one goal and one assist.
The game on Sunday will be the 24th meeting all-time between the schools, with Georgetown leading the head-to-head series, 13-8-2. The Hoyas defeated the Pirates, 4-0, in New Jersey a season ago. GU is 10-3 at home against the Pirates and Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan has a 10-2-1 record against his alma mater.
This season marks the 25th anniversary of women's soccer on the Hilltop and Sunday will be the official celebration. Alumni from the past 25 years will be joining donors, staff and coaches in honoring the women who have played on the Hilltop. It is a full weekend for the group including tours of the Thompson Center, a dinner, an alumni game on Sunday morning and then the game in the afternoon.
