WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team will face the No. 1 Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday evening in BIG EAST play at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. After a conference loss to No. 13 Seton Hall on Saturday the Hoyas slipped to 12-5 overall with a 2-4 mark league play.
Wednesday's game can be seen live on FS1 with Brian Custer calling the play-by-play and Bill Raftery providing the color analysis. The game can be heard locally on WJFK 106.7 FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
Against Seton Hall on Saturday, junior forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) recorded his third double-double of the season with team bests of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Derrickson led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures as junior forward Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va./The Carlisle School) added 14 and junior center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) and freshman guard Jahvon Blair (Brampton, Ont./Athlete Institute Prep) each tallied 11 points. Additionally, Govan grabbed five boards while tallying three assists, a game-best three blocks and one steal.
For the season, Govan leads the Hoyas with 17.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. His rebounding average ranks second in the BIG EAST. Derrickson is second on the team in both categories, averaging 14.9 ppg and 7.5 rpg.
Villanova is currently 16-1 this season with a 4-1 record in the BIG EAST. The lone loss came from a 101-93 loss to Butler during a BIG EAST contest. In their most recent victory over St. John's, Villanova finished the game 78-71 at Madison Square Garden. Donte DiVincenzo led the Wildcats with a team-high 25 points and contributed seven rebounds, while Mikal Bridges had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Wildcats are led by Jalen Brunson, who averages 18.8. ppg.
This is the 81st meeting between Georgetown and Villanova. The Hoyas lead the all-time series, 44-36.
Following Wednesday's game, the Hoyas will remain in the District on Saturday to face St. John's for the second time this season in BIG EAST play. Tipoff is set for noon at Capital One Arena and can be watched live on FS1 and heard locally on WJFK 106.7 FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
