WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Hoyas to a 1-1 week.
Petke was the league's top scorer and No. 5 rebounder last week, averaging 25.0 points, off .541 shooting, and 9.5 rebounds. The senior's week was highlighted by a 26-point, 13-rebound, three-steal outing in Friday's 85-58 win over Marquette who was previously unbeaten in league play. She added a game-high 24 points against DePaul on Sunday in a 78-62 loss, along with six boards and three steals.
Petke is third on the squad in scoring averaging 12.1 ppg which also ranks her 17th in the conference. She is pulling down 9.5 rpg which leads the Hoyas and is third in the BIG EAST. The forward has posted nine double-doubles so far this season.
This is Petke's first career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and the first by a Hoya since Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) on Dec. 12, 2016. Georgetown has won three honor roll awards this season, including Petke earning a nod on Nov. 20, 2017.
