WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team will hit the road for a three-game road swing, starting with a BIG EAST matchup against Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. E.T. on Saturday at CenturyLink Center Omaha. After a heartbreaking loss to DePaul on Wednesday, the Hoyas hold an overall record of 13-7, with a 3-6 mark in conference action.
Saturday's contest will be shown live on CBS Sports Network with Carter Blackburn calling the play-by-play and Pete Gillen providing color analysis. The game can be heard locally on WNEW 99.1 FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
On Wednesday against DePaul, Georgetown overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half, but a basket with 7.3 seconds remaining gave the Blue Demons a 74-73 victory at Capital One Arena. Junior forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) led the Hoyas with 23 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point land, as well as a 9-for-10 effort from the free throw line. He added three rebounds, four assists and one block. Freshman guard Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C./Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]) poured in 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including a quintet of 3-pointers, while tallying a team-best eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J./St. Anthony) rounded out those in double figures as he chipped in 10 points to go with a game-best five assists.
For the season, Govan leads the Hoyas with 16.7 ppg and 10.6 rpg. He currently leads the BIG EAST in defensive rebounds, 7.7 rpg. Derrickson is second on the team in both categories as he registers 15.6 ppg and 7.5 rpg. In league play, both Govan and Derrickson are among the top five in rpg.
Creighton is now 16-5 overall and 6-3 in the BIG EAST. Most recently, the Bluejays defeated St. John's, 68-63, on Tuesday. Marcus Foster finished with team bests of 24 points and eight rebounds. Foster has scored over 20 ppg in the last three games.
This is the 12th meeting between the Hoyas and the Bluejays, with Georgetown leading the series, 6-5, and the second matchup this season. In the first meeting earlier this month at Capital One Arena, GU fell to Creighton, 90-66. Mosely led the offense with 11 points, while junior forward Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va,/The Carlisle School) had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas will remain on the road and head to Cincinnati, Ohio to face No. 8 Xavier. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 3 and can be watched live on CBS Sports and heard locally on 99.1 WNEW-FM with Rich Chvotkin handling the call.
