WASHINGTON - The Georgetown swimming & diving team is currently in Bermuda for its annual winter training trip. Throughout the Hoyas' week-long stay, GUHoyas.com will receive updates from members of the team. Today's second update is from junior Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope).
The training trip has been challenging yet rewarding so far -- I'm excited to see how the next few days play out! On Wednesday, the weather did not cooperate and it was cold and rainy, but we still were able to get in some good training. That evening we did not have a set dinner, so we were able to briefly explore the island and try some of the local joints together. The locals have been very kind and welcoming!
Thursday has been the highlight of the trip so far, and although the forecast was for heavy thunderstorms, we had a pretty sunny day! On our way back to the hotel my van driver took us on a short detour to an elevated spot near a lighthouse and we were able to get a great view of how beautiful Bermuda is. The temperature was right around 70 degrees and we were able to lay out on the beach between practices, which was a big morale boost for the team. Some of my teammates even took out the kayaks and did a bit of exploring around the resort. Unfortunately, our beach day was cut a bit short when some clouds and strong winds came through, but we still finished the day off well with a solid practice that evening.
Friday morning was an early one with a 5:30 wakeup for breakfast before morning practice. The sun made another brief appearance during practice and I'm proud of how my team is responding to the difficult and long training of the trip. We're officially halfway done, and while the training will continue to challenge us, I know that we will become closer from this experience.
