WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the Morgan State Fall Invitational this past weekend. The Hoyas faced four teams and had an overall strong showing before they compete in the ITA Regionals this upcoming weekend.
In the opening day, the Hoyas swept Loyola with singles wins in straight sets from
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Caif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and Lindsay Zimmermann (Green Bay, Wis. / Hilton Head Preparatory).
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordup Gymnasium) and
Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md. / Holton Arms School) won their doubles match 6-1, 6-2.
Georgetown continued to dominate with a 4-0 win over Bucknell. Nakagawa, Moenster and Lynham all won their singles matches and the doubles team of
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) and
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) defeated the Bison, 6-1, 6-3.
On Sunday, the Hoyas edged George Mason in a close 3-2 contest. Georgetown's wins all came from singles matches from Moenster, Goodson and De Santis. Each match was won in straight sets.
Finally, GU tied host team Morgan State, 2-2, after competing in three singles matches and one doubles match.
The Hoyas will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 12 as they compete in the ITA Regionals. The five day event will take place in Lynchburg, Virginia.
