WASHINGTON – The No. 29-ranked Georgetown University men's cross country team finished fifth and the women's squad turned in a 13th-place finish at the Penn State National Open in State College, Pennsylvania. The men tallied a total score of 226 in the 5.2-mile event while the women finished with a total score of 325 in the 6-kilometer race.
Georgetown Men's Recap (5th of 21, 226 points, Men's 5.2 Mile Race)
The Georgetown men got off to a fast start with
Jack Van Scoter (Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) and All-American
Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) leading the way finishing 14th and 15th, respectively, for the Hoyas with matching times of 25:21.
Matthew Bouthillette (North Providence, R.I. / La Salle Academy),
Adam Barnard (Gray, Tenn. / Daniel Boone) and
Rusty Kujdych (Feasterville Trevose, Pa. / Neshaminy) rounded out the scorers with a four-second spread separating the trio.
"
Jack Van Scoter and
Nick Wareham ran really tough team races," Head Men's Cross Country Coach
Brandon Bonsey said. "I was really pleased with their efforts. We need to cut down the gap after that.
Adam Barnard,
Matthew Bouthillette and
Rusty Kujdych worked well together but they need to get closer to Jack and Nick. We didn't run
Christian Liddell or
Spencer Brown so adding them back in for BIG EAST should help a lot."

"We had a better outing this week and are making some great improvements as a team," Director of Track & Field / Cross Country
Julie Culley said. "The results don't do justice to where we are as a group and I believe were putting the pieces together for a solid BIG EAST meet in two weeks. Our 2-5 runners know where they need to be collectively and we will make the adjustments moving forward. Paige had a nice race and is gaining confidence each week. We'll be in a better position in two weeks with a few more resting athletes in the mix."
