WASHINGTON – The No. 4 Georgetown women's soccer team (12-0-2, 5-0 BIG EAST) will host the Providence Friars (8-4-2, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. and the eight seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to kickoff for Senior Day. Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) was named to the weekly honor roll. This is Georgetown's eighth-straight week being recognized by the league. The Hoyas moved into the No. 4 position in the national rankings this week after sitting in the No. 5 spot a week prior.
Farrell leads the squad with 27 points from 13 goals and an assist and is on an eight-game scoring streak. Carusa follows with 19 points off of six goals and seven assists. Senior goalkeeper
Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) leads the nation in save percentage (.946) and GAA (.241) and comes in second in shutouts this season (9). Farrell is second in the country in total goals (13), fourth in goals per game (.930), seventh in total points (27) and 10th in shots on goal per game (2.57). As a team, the Blue & Gray sits second in the NCAA in win-loss-tie percentage (.929), fourth in save percentage (.923), fifth in GAA (.343) and 10th in shutout percentage (.643).
The Hoyas currently lead the BIG EAST Conference standings, going 5-0 in league matches. Georgetown ranks first in the league in multiple categories, including points (91), goals (33), goals per game (2.36), assists (25), assists per game (1.79), goals allowed (5), GAA (.34), shutouts (9) and corners (10). Farrell ranks first in several individual categories, including points (27), points per game (1.93), goals (13), goals per game (.93), and is tied for first in game-winning goals (4). Carusa leads the league in assists (7) and assists per game (.50). Schechtman ranks first in the BIG EAST in GAA (.24), save percentage (.946) and shutouts this season (9).
The Friars went 1-0-1 last week, with its most recent win against Marquette, 1-0, on Sunday. Katie Day, who was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute off of a corner kick. The win marked Providence's seventh shutout of the season. Prior to last Sunday's victory, the Friars came to a scoreless draw last Thursday against St. John's.
Sophomore Hannah McNulty leads the team with 18 points from eight goals and two assists. She leads the league in shots, averaging 4.57 shots per game and an overall total of 64, just one more than Farrell's total. Senior goalkeeper Shelby Hogan has started all 14 games this season in the net and registers a .690 GAA with 68 saves and a .872 save percentage. Hogan was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday.
The game on Sunday will be the 18th meeting between the Hoyas and the Friars, with GU leading the all-time series, 11-3-3. GU fell to Providence during the 2017 campaign, 1-0, in Providence, Rhode Island.
