No. 4 Hoyas Host Butler on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The No. 4 Georgetown women's soccer team (14-0-2, 7-0 BIG EAST) will host the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field for the final home game of the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 1:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on BEDN with Monika Moore calling the action and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

The unbeaten Hoyas are on a 13-game winning streak, owning the longest winning streak in the country at the moment. The Blue & Gray is coming off of a 2-1 double overtime victory on Thursday night at Marquette. The Golden Eagles took the lead in the 62nd minute, but just 10 minutes later, graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) tied the score up, 1-1, after breaking through a pair of MU defenders on the end line. Neither team scored in the remaining minutes of regulation, forcing both squads into overtime, which then led to double overtime. In the 102nd minute, senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) scored the golden goal off of an assist from junior Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) at the top of the box.
 
Farrell leads the Blue & Gray with 31 points from 15 goals and an assist and is on a 10-game scoring streak. She has scored two golden goals throughout the past three matches and has scored the game-winning goal in all three of them. Carusa follows with 21 points off of seven goals and seven assists. Senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) leads the nation in save percentage (.934) and shutouts this season (10) and ranks fourth in the country in GAA (.274). Farrell is second in the NCAA in game-winning goals (6), as well as total goals (15), sits third in goals per game (.940) and SOG per game (2.81). She is sixth in the NCAA in total points (31), eighth in shots per game (5.00) and ninth in PPG (1.94). As a team, the Hoyas sit second in the nation in win-loss-tie percentage (.938), fifth in GAA (.359) and save percentage (.625), and are 10th in shutout percentage (.625).
 
Georgetown currently leads the BIG EAST Conference standings with a perfect record of 7-0 in league matches and is locked in a first round bye in the league tournament after Thursday's victory. The Blue & Gray rank first in the league in multiple categories, including shots (278), points (99), goals (36), goals per game (2.25), assists (27), goals allowed (6), GAA (.36), shutouts (10) and corners (122). Farrell ranks first in several individual categories, including shots (80), shots per game (5.00), points (31), PPG (1.94), goals (15), goals per game (.94) and game-winning goals (6). Carusa leads the league in assists (7) and assists per game (.44). Additionally, Schechtman ranks first in the BIG EAST in GAA (.27), save percentage (.934) and shutouts this season (10).
 
On Monday, senior Jenna Staudt (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Farrell was named to the Weekly Honor Roll, Farrell's fifth-straight week being recognized by the league. The Hoyas have sat in the No. 4 position in the national rankings for the past two weeks and have been ranked in the top 10 for the past seven weeks. They started the season at No. 22.
 
The Bulldogs (11-4-1, 5-1-1 BIG EAST) shut out Creighton on Thursday night, 1-0, in Indianapolis. Senior Halle Stelbasky scored a late goal in the 76th minute to put Butler up on the board. Sophomore goalkeeper Leonie Doege managed one save at net against the Bluejays. For the season, freshman Anja Savich leads the squad with 17 points off of seven goals and three assists. Junior Hannah Luedtke has started all 16 games as goalkeeper, registering a .63 GAA with 16 saves and a .762 save percentage. Doege has appeared in all 16 games and has recorded a 1.12 GAA with 17 saves and a .654 save percentage.
 
Sunday's game will be the eighth meeting between the Hoyas and the Bulldogs, with GU leading the all-time series, 5-1-1. Georgetown shut out Butler last season in the BIG EAST Championship, 3-0, at Shaw Field. The two squads tied earlier in the regular season, 0-0, in double overtime.
 
Following Sunday's match, the Blue & Gray will travel to Xavier for its final game of the regular season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at XU Soccer Complex. The game will be broadcast live on BEDN and live stats will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
