Georgetown SAAC Hosts Successful Career Blitz

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the first ever Career Blitz in the Thompson Athletic Center on Georgetown's campus last month. The two-week professional development program, which was led by student-athletes and designed around the Cawley Career Education Center's annual career fair, brought employers from around the country to recruit Georgetown students and alumni for full-time and internship opportunities in a variety of industries.

"The first Career Blitz was a success and a reflection of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees focus on meeting the needs they hear from their peers," said Dr. Maya Ozery, Executive Director of the Cooper Athletics Leadership Program (CALP). "William Mangan led the charge with being the point person for the different companies, and his hard work is reflected in the organization and quality of the program.

"I am proud of the SAAC Board for recognizing a need and being committed to developing this program in a way that would resonate for their peers. SAAC intends on hosting another Carer Blitz in the spring semester, and I am looking forward to seeing the group work together to develop this further."

The career blitz was open to all student-athletes, and employers hosted gatherings such as information sessions, meet-and-greets and shared career and internship opportunities within their companies.

"SAAC felt it was important to have targeted networking opportunities for student-athletes," said William Mangan, SAAC's vice president and a senior on the men's rowing team. "These events gave student-athletes a chance to meet professionals from different firms, and it was clear that these employers were very interested in recruiting student-athletes too. I found the sessions to be incredibly informative and an excellent opportunity to build relationships with employers from a variety of industries."

A list of companies that attended the career blitz included AlphaSights, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, Heidrick & Struggles and UBS & Oppenheimer Funds.

"It's an absolute privilege and joy being back on campus representing both Deloitte and Georgetown student-athletes," said Tyler Rudy (MSB'14), a former men's soccer player and human capital analyst at Deloitte. "One of my goals while at Deloitte is to help Georgetown student-athletes realize and utilize the untapped intangible skills they are developing from their respective athletic endeavors."
