WASHINGTON –
Oliver Moe has been announced as Georgetown's first "Future Leader" through the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative, as announced on Friday. The McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative, launched by The John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation in July, is a coach-driven initiative that provides minorities a jump-start to their careers.

Dr. Maya Ozery, Executive Director of the Cooper Athletics Leadership Program. "As a graduate assistant, he was involved in various programs, traveled with a group of student-athletes to the Black Student-Athlete Summit, and has led our communication strategy. Moving forward, he will assist in the daily operations of the program and coordinate a variety of initiatives. He is a promising young professional who has a bright future ahead of him."
About Oliver Moe
- Moe is in his first year as the coordinator for the Cooper Athletics Leadership Program after serving as a graduate assistant during the 2019-20 academic year.
- In his role as coordinator, Moe assists in the daily operations of the program while helping coordinate a variety of the program's initiatives.
- As a graduate assistant, he was involved in the execution of numerous programs including Hoya Fall Formation, the Black Student-Athlete Summit, and the Canvas Student-Athlete Community Board.
- The Bronx, New York native was a four-year track & field student-athlete at Colgate University, where he served as team captain his senior year and was an ambassador for ROCC (Raiders of Color Connect), a group that worked to enhance the experiences of student-athletes of color.
- He received his Bachelor of Arts in peace and conflict studies and Asian studies from Colgate in 2019, and his Master of Professional Studies in sports industry management from the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies in 2020.
About the McLendon Minority Leadership Initiative (MLI)
- Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing is one of 35 collegiate coaches to serve as an MLI ambassador in its first year.
- The purpose of the MLI is to provide minorities a jump-start to their careers through practical experiences, opportunities to build their network, and instilling the values of John McLendon: Integrity, Education, Leadership and Mentorship.
- Coaches participating in the initiative are Ambassadors of the program and will serve as mentors to the Future Leaders on their campuses.
- The McLendon Foundation, along with G3 Marketing and ProLink Staffing Services, will be assisting in the solicitation of collegiate coaches, administrators and corporations to build this program and provide opportunities within athletics departments at all levels, with the ultimate goal of expanding and enhancing the pipeline for minorities interested in pursuing careers in athletics administration.
- As an added benefit, the Joel Cornette Foundation will assist the Future Leaders with corporate mentorship, development, and job placement.
About the Cooper Athletics Leadership Program
- The Cooper Athletics Leadership Program is a unique interdisciplinary, academically-grounded approach to the study and practice of leadership dynamics in an intercollegiate athletics environment.
- The program uses an academic leadership framework and intercollegiate athletics participation as a means towards the higher education end of developing young people and integrates Athletics into the broad educational mission of the university.
- The leadership curriculum provides a series of immersive programs designed to engage in leadership development, expose students to different theories of influence, and help them develop their own leadership philosophies.
