No. 5 Women’s Soccer Visits Creighton

WASHINGTON – The No. 5 Georgetown women's soccer team (10-0-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) will visit the Creighton Bluejays (4-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday evening at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET and live stats and video will be available at GUHoyas.com.

The unbeaten Hoyas are on a nine-game winning-streak, their longest streak in program history. The squad went 2-0 last week, shutting out conference opponents DePaul and Seton Hall, 3-0, in both matches. Senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) recorded four points between the two games from a goal in each match. Junior Grace Nguyen (Lilburn, Ga. / Parkview) tallied an assist against each opponent. Additionally, senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) recorded her 40th career shutout against the Pirates, her eighth this season.

On Monday, Farrell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Schechtman was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. This is Georgetown's seventh-straight week being recognized by the league. The Hoyas moved into the No. 5 position in the national rankings this week after entering the poll at No. 7 a week prior.

Farrell leads the squad with 19 points from nine goals and an assist. The forward is on a six-game scoring streak and has had at least three shots in 11 of 12 matches this year. Graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) follows with 15 points off of six goals and three assists. Schechtman currently leads the NCAA Division I active career list in several categories: career shutouts (40), save percentage (0.958) and GAA (0.191). The senior ranks third in shutouts this season with eight. As a team, the Blue & Gray sits third in the NCAA in GAA (.321) and save percentage (0.930) and ranks fourth nationally in win-loss-tie percentage (.917).

The Hoyas currently lead the BIG EAST Conference standings, going 3-0 in league matches. Georgetown ranks first in the league in multiple categories, including points (69), goals (25), goals allowed (4), goals per game (2.08), GAA (.32), shutouts (8) and corners (83). Farrell ranks first in several individual categories, including shots (52), shots per game (4.33), points (19), points per game (1.58), goals (9) and goals per game (.75). Schechtman ranks first the BIG EAST in the same categories that she leads nationally and leads the shutout category as well. Additionally, Carusa is fourth in the conference with 15 points and ties for fourth with six goals, as well as ties for second with game-winning goals (3). Nguyen is tied for second in the league with four assists on the season.

Creighton enters Thursday's match with a 4-7 overall record and 1-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Bluejays won their first conference match, 1-0, against Xavier, but fell to St. John's and DePaul, 2-1, in both matches. The team is coming off an overtime loss to DePaul on Sunday after the Blue Demons tied the game in the second half and then scored the sudden victory goal in the fifth minute of overtime. Junior Taryn Jakubowski leads Creighton with five points from two goals and an assist on the season. Freshman Katie Sullivan has suited up as goalkeeper in every match so far this season. She registers a 1.62 GAA and has recorded 56 saves at net.

The game on Thursday will be the sixth meeting between the Hoyas and the Bluejays, with GU leading the all-time series, 4-0-1. The two teams came to a 1-1 draw last season at Shaw Field after junior Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md./ Bethesda-Chevy Chase) tied the score in the 80th minute, forcing the teams into double overtime. Prior to last year's result, Georgetown has won every contest since the series began in 2013.

Following Thursday's contest, the Blue & Gray will host Villanova on Sunday at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and live stats, as well as a webcast featuring Monika Moore, will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
