No. 5 Hoyas Host Villanova on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The No. 5 Georgetown women's soccer team (11-0-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) will host the Villanova Wildcats (9-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and live stats, as well as a webcast featuring Monika Moore, will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
 
The unbeaten Hoyas are on a 10-game winning streak, their longest streak in program history. The squad defeated Creighton on Thursday, 7-1, in a BIG EAST matchup. Senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) led the Blue & Gray with six points from three goals. Junior Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) came close behind with five points off of a pair of goals and an assist. Additionally, graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) tallied three assists on the evening and senior Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.Y. / Central Regional) and junior Grace Nguyen (Lilburn, Ga. / Parkview) each recorded a goal in the contest.
 
On Monday, Farrell was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. This is Georgetown's seventh-straight week being recognized by the league. The Hoyas moved into the No. 5 position in the national rankings this week after sitting in the No. 7 spot a week prior.
 
Farrell leads the squad with 25 points from 12 goals and an assist and is on a seven-game scoring streak. Carusa follows with 18 points off of six goals and six assists. Schechtman ranks third in the nation in save percentage (.940) and shutouts this season (8) and sits fourth in the NCAA in GAA (.264). Farrell is second in the country in total goals (12), fifth in goals per game (.920) and eighth in total points (25). As a team, the Blue & Gray sits third in the NCAA in win-loss-tie percentage (.923), fifth in save percentage (.915), seventh in GAA (.371), eighth in total goals (32) and 12th in shutout percentage (.615).
 
The Hoyas currently lead the BIG EAST Conference standings, going 4-0 in league matches. Georgetown ranks first in the league in multiple categories, including shots (214), points (88), goals (32), goals allowed (5), assists (24), GAA, corners (89) and is tied for first in shutouts (8). Farrell ranks first in several individual categories, including shots (59), shots per game (4.54), points, points per game (1.92), goals and goals per game (.92). Carusa comes in a close second in points and points per game (1.38) and is tied for first in the league in assists. Schechtman ranks first in the BIG EAST in GAA, save percentage and shutouts.
 
Villanova enters Sunday's contest on a three-game winning streak after defeating Seton Hall, 4-1, on Thursday night. The Wildcats scored three of its goals in the first half and scored their fourth goal within the first five minutes of the second. Bri Austin tallied two goals against the Pirates and Kristin Barbour recorded two assists. Austin leads the team with 15 points from seven goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff holds a 6-2 record in the net, registering a 1.07 GAA and 34 saves on the season.
 
The Hoyas are 9-12-3 all-time against the Wildcats and have won the last three contests against them. Last season, Georgetown shut out Villanova, 5-0, at Higgins Soccer Complex and Carolan recorded four goals in the victory.  
 
Following Sunday's match, the Blue & Gray will host Providence at Shaw Field on Sunday, Oct. 14. It will also be Senior Day as the eight seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to kickoff. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
