WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team plays Loyola Marymount in the second annual Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay on Friday, Nov. 16. The 3-0 Hoyas take on the 3-0 Lions in their first of two games in the eight-team tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
The game will be shown live on CBS Sports Network and can be heard locally on WOL 1450 AM with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season on the call.
Georgetown is coming off an 88-80 victory over the University of Illinois in its first road contest of the season. Freshman
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) led all GU scores with 19 points from six treys, while
Josh LeBlanc (Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy),
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City),
Jahvon Blair (Brampton, Ont. / Athlete Institute Prep) and
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) all added double figure scoring. LeBlanc pulled down seven boards on the night and Akinjo paced the offense with seven assists.
Loyola Marymount (3-0) enters Friday's game after a 79-64 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday night at Gersten Pavilion. A pair of Lions had double-doubles as junior Mattias Markusson secured 12 rebounds and 15 points, while senior James Batemon led the team in points and assists with 21 and 10, respectively. Batemon leads Marymount in points averaging 19.7 per game.
This is the first meeting between Georgetown and Loyola Marymount. The Blue & Gray holds a 1-2 record against opponents from the West Coast Conference (WCC).
Following the matchup against the Lions, the Hoyas play the University of South Florida Bulls on Sunday, Nov. 18. Tipoff is slated for noon ET at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
