WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team concluded competition at the three-day Bucknell Invitational. The Hoya men finished third with 984 points, trailing just Towson (1,384.5) and Davidson (1,036), while the GU women's came in fourth with 992.5 points, behind Towson (1,564), Fordham (1,264) and Bucknell (1,151).
On Saturday,
Brett Sherman (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) took home Georgetown's first individual win of the weekend, touching the wall first in the 400-yard IM as he broke the four-minute mark with a time of 3:57.48 to win by nearly three seconds.
Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass. / Central Catholic) followed that up with a win in the 100-yard backstroke
Carbone completed the backstroke sweep on Sunday, winning the 200 backstroke by more than a full second.
Michael Wheeler (Lafayette, Calif. / Campolindo) placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while
Carlson Temple (San Diego, Calif. / Patrick Henry) came in fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In the women's 100-yard butterfly on Saturday,
Laine Morgan (Miami, Fla. / Ransom Everglades School) and
Lauren Henasey (Newtown, Pa. / Germantown Academic) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while
Grace Chen (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) turned in a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke.
Christina Barrett (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) kicked off Sunday's events with a second-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Henasey came in third in the 200-yard butterfly with Barrett right behind her in fifth, and Evie Mauzé (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) touched the wall fifth in the 200-yard backstroke
The Blue & Gray will next send its qualifying swimmers to the U.S. Winter National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. The four-day meet, which will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 1, will serve as the first opportunity to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials.
