Hoyas Send Four to U.S. Winter National Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's swimming & diving team will send four student-athletes to the U.S. Winter National Championships this weekend at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Senior Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope), sophomore Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass. / Central Catholic) and freshmen Brett Sherman (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) and Carlson Temple (San Diego, Calif. / Patrick Henry) will all compete in eight different events.

The four-day U.S. Winter National Championships, which run from Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 1, will serve as the first opportunity to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials. The morning heats begin each day at 9 a.m., while the evening finals start at 5 p.m. All of the events can be watched live at usaswimming.org. Sherman will be the first Hoya in the water on Thursday as he swims in the 400-yard freestyle on Thursday. He will be back in the pool on Friday with the 400-yard IM. Sherman holds the top time in the 400 IM in the BIG EAST this year, touching the wall in a time of 3:57.48 earlier this month at the Bucknell Invitational.

Carbone will swim in three events over three days, starting with the 200-yard IM on Thursday, before competing in the 100-yard backstroke on Friday and the 200 Back on Saturday. The sophomore is the reigning BIG EAST champion in the 200 IM and the 200 Back, and holds the top times in the BIG EAST in all three events this year. In Georgetown's four meets this season, he has swept the backstroke races each time.

Maslowski will compete in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday in his lone event of the weekend. In GU's last meet at the Bucknell Invitational, Maslowski swam a season-best time of 21.22 seconds, ranking among the top 10 in the BIG EAST this year.

Temple will join Sherman in the pool on Friday for the 400-yard IM before jumping back in three events later for the 100-breaststroke. He will cap off the weekend on Saturday in the 200-yard breaststroke. The freshman holds the second-fastest 200 Breast time in the BIG EAST this year, while his marks in the 100 Breast and the 400-IM are both the sixth fastest.

Following the U.S. Winter National Championships, the Georgetown swimming & diving team will break for exams and the holiday break. The Hoyas will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host District rivals George Washington and American at McCarthy Pool. The meet will serve as GU's Senior Day as the program will recognize its 11 seniors.
