WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field teams will open the 2018-19 indoor track & field season in Annapolis, Maryland for the Navy Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Navy. Georgetown will participate in a number of events throughout the afternoon against American, Morgan State, William & Mary and Navy, among others. The day kicks off for the Hoyas at 11 a.m. with the men's 5,000-meter race. The first women's event commences at 12:50 p.m. for the 60-meter hurdles. The meet will be held at the Wesley Brown Field House.
The men's squad returns a number of standout performers from last year. All-Americans
Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) and
Quincey Wilson (Lithonia, Ga. / Arabia Mountain), as well as BIG EAST Champion
Nate Alleyne (Downingtown, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan), will compete in the men's 400-meter event. Wilson and Alleyne both played vital roles in the 4x400-meter relay title win at last years Navy Invitational. Sophomore
Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y. / Huntington), who was also part of the foursome, will look to make an impact for the Blue & Gray in the 500-meter race.
The men's team will also feature a number of collegiate debuts, including four distance runners and one sprinter.
Quinn Nicholson (Painted Post, N.Y. / Corning),
Maazin Ahmed (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schenectady) and
Tristan Forsythe (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Winchester Thurston) will run in the 3,000-meter event while
Ethan Delgado (El Paso, Texas / El Dorado) will compete in a pair of distance events. The lone sprinter,
D'Andre Barriffe (Jamaica, N.Y. / Bishop Loughlin Memorial), will take part in the 400-meter run.
On the women's side, All-American
Kennedy Weisner (St. Mary's, Pa. / Elk County Catholic) and BIG EAST Champion
Taylor Williams (Hatboro, Pa. / Hatboro-Horsham) will lead the way for the Hoyas with Weisner competing in the 1,000-meter event and Williams running in the 200-meter race. The women's squad will also have a number of freshmen racing for the first time. Distance runners
Sami Corman (Bellevue, Wash. / Issaquah),
Cathilyn McIntosh (Loomis, Calif. / Del Oro) and
Rachel Sessa (Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury Memorial) will make their Georgetown debuts in the women's 1,000-meter event while
Eni Akinniyi (Denton, Texas / John H. Guyer) competes in the 200-meter race and
Tamiya Roberts (Powder Springs, Ga. / McEachern) will run in the 400-meter category.
