WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University cross country teams are back in State College, Pennsylvania on Friday for the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The Hoyas will return to the Blue & White Golf Course, a site they ran a month ago at the Penn State National meet. The women's 6-kilometer race is set for noon while the men's 10-kilometer race begins at 1 p.m. ET.
The men's team heads into the race tabbed second regionally behind No. 25-ranked Princeton. The Blue & Gray is coming off a stellar championship victory two weeks ago at the 2018 BIG EAST Championships, posting its fourth-consecutive title. Georgetown comes into this event having won the Mid-Atlantic title in 2015 and 2016 and will look to make it three titles in four years. The Hoyas will once again have a full-strength squad on hand with seven runners, including All-American
Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury), who finished second overall at the BIG EAST Championships, and fourth-place finisher
Jack Van Scoter (Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep).
The men's squad will also rely on the experience of All-American
Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton), as well as
Matthew Bouthillette (North Providence, R.I. / La Salle Academy) and
Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I. / La Salle Academy), who both finished in the top 15 at the BIG EAST Championships.
Eion Nohilly (Golden's Bridge, N.Y. / John Jay) and
Rusty Kujdych (Feasterville Trevose, Pa. / Neshaminy) will also be competing for points.
"I believe our team is very well prepared for the NCAA Regional meet," said Head Men's Cross Country Coach
Brandon Bonsey. "We've had a great two-week block of training since the BIG EAST meet where everyone has looked really good. All of our training is geared towards being our best for the postseason. The men are ready to execute their plan and run their best team race of the year."
The women's team is coming off an impressive second-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships.
Paige Hofstad (New Braunfels, Texas / New Braunfels) will look to build off of her third-place overall finish at the BIG EAST Championships two weeks ago as she faces a very competitive field.
Margie Cullen (Needham, Mass. / Needham), who also finished in the top-10, is seeking another strong performance while freshmen standouts
Katherine Modrall (Carmel, Ind. / Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory),
Sami Corman (Bellevue, Wash. / Issaquah) and
Katie Dammer (Clarks Summit, Pa. / Abington Heights) will all be battling to score points. Rounding out the starting lineup for the Hoyas are
Meg Mathison (Middleton, Wis. / Waunakee / Carleton College) and
Kayla Grahn (La Canada Flintridge, Calif. / Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy).
The top two teams from each regional championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Madison, Wisconsin. A total of 31 teams will compete as a team at the NCAA Championships with 18 teams earning an automatic bid while another 13 teams receive an at-large bid.
