Hoyas Set to Host Little Rock in First Ever Matchup

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team continues its final nonconference home stretch on Saturday, hosting the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Tipoff against the Trojans is slated for noon at Capital One Arena.
 
Saturday's game can be seen live on FSN with regional coverage provided by MASN2. John Fanta will call the play-by-play and Tarik Turner will provide analysis. The game can be heard locally on The Team 980 with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season calling the game. It will be Chvotkin's 1,400th game with the Hoyas on Saturday.
 
The Hoyas (8-3) moved back into the win column on Tuesday with an 83-73 victory over Appalachian State. Freshman James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) led the offense with 17 points, his ninth double-figure scoring effort, on 6-of-12 shooting including 3 of 5 from downtown. Freshman Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) added 14 while senior Greg Malinowski (Chantilly, Va. / Episcopal / William & Mary) chipped in 11, tying his GU best, and freshman Josh LeBlanc (Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy) chimed in with 10. LeBlanc led the squad as he pulled down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and Akinjo paced the offense with four assists. For the game, Georgetown shot 43.8 percent on 28-for-64 shooting, including a 45.8 percent clip (11 of 24) from downtown.
 
Senior Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) continues to lead the Hoyas, and rank among the BIG EAST leaders in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Akinjo and McClung are both in double figures in scoring at 13.6 and 10.0 ppg, respectively. LeBlanc is tied with Govan in rebounding, while Akinjo averages 4.5 apg. As a team, GU sits atop the conference in assists with 16.6 apg.
 
Little Rock enters Saturday's game with a 5-7 record, coming off a 99-89 road defeat at Memphis on Wednesday night. Rayjon Tucker led five Trojans in double figures with 29 points and chipped in four rebounds and four assists. Tucker leads the team in both scoring (21.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). Jaizec Lottie, who scored 14 points on Wednesday, leads the way with 4.7 assists per game.
 
Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing and Little Rock Head Coach Darrell Walker were teammates with the New York Knicks during the 1985-86 season. Ewing started 50 games, tallied 20.0 ppg and went on to become Rookie of the Year, while Walker started 35 games and averaged 10.3 ppg in his third year in the league. Georgetown Assistant Coach Louis Orr was also on the Knicks team and started 64 games, scoring 11.9 ppg.
 
This is the first ever matchup between the Hoyas and Little Rock. Georgetown has an overall 10-2 record against opponents from the Sun Belt Conference after defeating Appalachian State.
 
Following Saturday's contest, Georgetown will host Howard in the final nonconference game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 29. Tipoff is slated for noon at Capital One Arena.
