Box Score Feb. 11, 2018 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team won its first game of the 2018 season on Sunday in the final game of the FGCU Kickoff Classic. The Hoyas defeated LIU, 8-3, advancing to 1-2 on the season.
Freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda High School) hit a home run in the second inning to put GU in the scoring column. In the bottom of the third inning, sophomore Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) hit her second home run of the weekend while junior Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) was on base to give them the 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Holiday singled one out to left field to advance freshman Deirdre Gallo (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) to home plate, 4-1. While Jones was up to bat, Belknap scored on a passed ball to give the Hoyas another run.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman Arylene Campos (Nogales, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro High School) reached second base after a hit to center field, allowing freshman Reagan Jones (Wyckoff, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) to reach home plate, 6-3. With bases loaded, Belknap knocked a hit toward left field to advance Campos to score for the Hoyas, 7-3. Right after Belknap's power hit, Holiday flied one out to left field, advancing senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) to home plate to give GU its final run of the game.
In the circle sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) took the win for the Hoyas, striking out one and allowing six hits to give up three runs.
The Blue & Gray will be back in action on February 16 when they will travel to Conway, South Carolina, to take part in the Gamecock Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina.
