WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team lost 2-1 to Coastal Carolina in the last game of the Chanticleer Showdown in Conway, South Carolina. With the loss, the Hoyas now stand at 3-11 overall, while the Chanticleers improve to 11-5.
GU entered the scoring column in the fifth inning when freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda High School) singled to left field with the bases loaded. With the hit, Jones scored the first run of the game. However, Coastal Carolina tallied a single-run home run in the next inning to knot the score at 1-1. The teams went into extra innings due to the tied score and the Chanticleers scored the winning run in the eighth inning.
Sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, two runs and striking out eight.
Next weekend, Georgetown will host the District Classic, March 3-4. The Hoyas will host five teams and will play a five-game slate over the course of three days at Nationals Youth Academy the new official home field for the Hoyas. The teams include Lafayette, Columbia, Howard, UMBC and Iona. GU will open the tournament against Lafayette on the first day of action at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
