WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated Navy on Saturday morning in Annapolis, Maryland, 5-2. With the win, the Hoyas advance to 5-5 on the season.
While the Midshipmen earned the doubles point from the Hoyas, GU flipped the momentum early in singles and won three singles matches in straight sets and two more in three sets.
Senior Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) knocked off Andrew Ton, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), as well as freshman Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif./San Marino)defeated Zach Jennings, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) dominated his match over Aries Wong, 6-4, 6-1, along with freshman Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) who won his battle against Gabriel Pilones, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. Additionally, sophomore Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) fought back in his second set against Andrew Hicks to win his final set, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
The Blue & Gray will return to action on Wednesday, April 4 at 11 a.m. to face St. Francis Brooklyn.
