WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team was shut out by Arizona State on Wednesday evening in Tucson, Arizona, 13-0. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 5-13 on the season, while the Sun Devils advance to 18-2.
In the circle, sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) took the nod, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up seven hits, 10 runs and striking out three. Sophomore Isabelle Ortiz relieved Pacha for the final 1.1 innings of the game, giving up three hits and three runs while striking out one. The Blue & Gray came close to scoring throughout the game, but could not capitalize on opportunities. In the second inning, sophomore Alexa Dolby (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) pinch ran for junior Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) and reached third base, but was left on base when the next batter grounded out to second. Additionally, senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) reached base in the third inning with a single down the left field line, but did not make it past first base as the next batter up also grounded out to second.
The Hoyas will stay in Arizona for the Grand Canyon University Invitational, which will take place March 9-11. GU will play four games over a three-day slate in Phoenix, Arizona.
