WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team dropped a rescheduled nonconference game, 11-8, to visiting No. 9/10 Loyola Maryland on Tuesday afternoon. The Hoyas fall to 7-4 overall on the season while the Greyhounds improve to 8-3.

Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the Hoyas with two goals and three assists while Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison/Mercer) added a goal and three assists. Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Matt Behrens (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) both notched a pair of goals, Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) added a goal and an assist, and Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) tallied an assist.

Defensively, Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) collected six saves in between the pipes. Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) hauled in six grounds balls.

A back-and-forth first quarter saw Georgetown take the early lead on Bucaro's first goal of the game, followed by consecutive goals from Loyola to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 advantage. Georgetown responded with goals from McDonald and Berge, just 90 seconds apart, to retake a 3-2 lead but Loyola scored with 35 ticks remaining in the frame to salvage a 3-3 draw going into the second quarter.

In the second, Loyola outscored the Blue & Gray 4-1 and tallied the first three scores of the frame. Another goal with less than a minute remaining gave the Greyhounds a 7-4 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, GU scored back-to-back goals to pull within one, down 7-6. Loyola responded with two goals in the final 2:14 of the third quarter to go up 9-6 with 15 minutes to play.

In the fourth, the Greyhounds tallied goals at the 11:21 and 5:06 marks to lead 11-6. Georgetown's late rally, including two goals from Behrens within 29 seconds of each other, wasn't enough as Loyola closed out the victory.

Pat Spencer led Loyola with two goals and five assists while Jay Drapeau added four goals. Jacob Stover hauled in nine saves in goal for the win.

Georgetown returns to action as it travels to face No. 13/13 Villanova in BIG EAST action on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on FOX College Sports.
