WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's women's lightweight rowing team put together a strong performance at the Knecht Cup over the weekend in Mercer Lake, New Jersey. The Hoyas won a pair of heats en route to placing three boats in two separate Grand Finals.

"I was really impressed by our results at the Knecht Cup," assistant coach Kieren Emery said. "To be able to place both fours in the Grand Final, and have yet another strong showing from the eights, bodes well for the rest of the season. If we continue to row this well, it will be difficult decision to narrow down who to take to IRAs."

Opening the day in the lightweight eight event, the Hoya `A' boat won the second heat by 1.64 seconds over Princeton to advance to the Grand Final while the Hoya "B" boat placed fifth in the first heat to move on to the Petite Final. In the Grand Final, the Blue & Gray finished in second place behind Boston University by just 2.13 seconds. It was third race of the day for the boat after also competing in the varsity eight event earlier that morning. The `B' squad also placed second in the Petite Final, finishing just 5.0 seconds behind the leader.

In the lightweight four events, Georgetown's `A' boat won the third heat by 4.14 seconds over Princeton while the `B' crew was edged by Wisconsin's top boat by 9.16 seconds to place second. Both GU boats advanced to the Grand Final, where the `B' and `A' squads placed third and fourth overall, respectively.

Georgetown returns to the water as it travels to face Princeton for the Class of 2006 Cup on Saturday, April 21.
