Georgetown Hits Road to Take on Villanova

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (13-30, 4-7 BIG EAST) will travel to Villanova this weekend for a three-game BIG EAST matchup against the Wildcats. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and then a single contest on Sunday scheduled for noon. GU split a pair in two midweek games against Towson and Virginia. On Tuesday, the Blue & Gray fell to the Tigers, 12-1, but redeemed itself on Wednesday evening with a 15-7 victory over the Cavaliers. Against Virginia, Georgetown was led by a trio of Hoyas at the plate with three hits apiece. The trio included senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington), sophomore Kelly Amen (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda). Kane landed two doubles, while junior Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) and Jones each recorded one apiece, marking Jones' 13th double of the season. Sophomore Ciara Sullivan (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) hit a grand slam in the third inning, her second homer of the season. The Hoyas outhit the Cavaliers 15-6.

For the season, senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) leads the Blue & Gray offensively with a .331 batting average and a team high of 27 runs, ranked second in the BIG EAST, and 14 stolen bases, which ranks third in the league. Freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) leads the team and the BIG EAST with 13 doubles. Junior Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) has a team high with seven home runs, tied for third in the BIG EAST, and has collected 27 RBIs. Sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) leads the BIG EAST with 123 strikeouts.

Villanova is currently 19-17-1 this season with a 4-5 mark in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats have won seven of their last eight games. On Wednesday, Villanova split a pair in a midweek doubleheader against Morgan State. In game one, Villanova lost 1-0 and then defeated the Bears in game two in extra innings, 5-2. In its victory, the Wildcats won with two doubles in the top of the eighth inning to seal the win. The squad is led by Nikki Alden and Brittany Husk. Alden bats .407 at the plate and Husk bats .374. Both Wildcats have recorded 11 doubles and two home runs this season.

Following this weekend's BIG EAST matchup, the Blue & Gray will remain on the road and head to Omaha, Nebraska April 28-29 for another three-game conference series against Creighton. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
